Malaria Antigen Test (Rapid Malaria Test)
The Malaria Antigen Test is a rapid blood test used to detect malaria infection.
It identifies specific antigens (proteins) released by malaria parasites in the blood.
Malaria is caused by parasites of the genus Plasmodium.

The test usually detects:
Plasmodium falciparum (most severe type)
Plasmodium vivax
Sometimes mixed infections
🧪 How the Test Works
A drop of blood is placed on a test strip.
It detects malaria antigens such as:
HRP2 (Histidine-Rich Protein 2) → specific for P. falciparum
pLDH (parasite lactate dehydrogenase) → detects other species
Results are usually available within 15–20 minutes.

⚠️ A negative test does not completely rule out malaria if symptoms are strong — repeat testing or a blood smear may be needed.
