Total Calcium Test

The Total Calcium test measures the amount of calcium in your blood. Calcium is a vital mineral essential for:

Doctors order a total calcium test to:

📊 Normal Total Calcium Levels (Adults)

Note: About half of total calcium is bound to proteins (mostly albumin), and the rest is free (ionized calcium), which is the active form.

🔻 Low Calcium (Hypocalcemia)

Causes may include:

• Vitamin D deficiency

• Low magnesium

• Hypoparathyroidism (low parathyroid hormone)

• Kidney disease
