TyphiDot IgG Test
TyphiDot IgG is a blood test used to help diagnose typhoid fever, an infection caused by Salmonella enterica.
It detects IgG antibodies against specific outer membrane proteins of the bacteria.
🧪 What Does TyphiDot IgG Detect?
IgG antibodies
Develop later in infection
May remain in the blood for months or years
Indicate past infection or late-stage/current infection
This test is often done along with TyphiDot IgM:
IgM → Recent/acute infection
IgG → Past exposure or ongoing infection (later phase)
📊 Interpretation of Results
Result | Meaning |
|---|---|
IgG Negative | No past exposure (or very early infection) |
IgG Positive | Past infection, vaccination, or late/ongoing infection |
⚠️ A positive IgG alone does NOT always mean active typhoid. Clinical symptoms and other tests are needed.
⏱ When Does IgG Appear?
Usually after 7–14 days of infection
Persists longer than IgM
🔍 Advantages of TyphiDot Test
Faster than blood culture
Results within a few hours
Easier to perform
⚠️ Limitations
Cannot clearly distinguish past from current infection
May give false positives in endemic areas
Blood culture remains the gold standard for confirming typhoid
🩺 When Is It Ordered?
Persistent fever (more than 5 days)
Suspected typhoid
When blood culture is not available
If you have a TyphiDot report (IgM/IgG results), you can share it and I can help explain what it means.
